On July 11, 2023, the Commission released regulation EU/2023/1442. It concerns the 16th amendment to regulation EU/10/2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come in contact with food.
The new amendment focusses on Annex 1, which establishes a list of authorized substances, the so-called positive list.
The changes include, among others:
- Wood flour and fibers (FCM 96) and salicylic acid (FCM 121) authorisations are revoked,
- The migration limit for several phthalates is lowered, and a new group restriction is introduced,
- Extension of authorisation of the substance FCM 1007 and FCM 1076,
- New substances are authorized (FCM 1078, 1081, 1082, 1083).
